Parties, Music and Soul food

I got this great painting at the durian party last night. I just said I loved it & it was offered to me I love this pic of the artist walking underneath it. He's a musician also - Lots of great music last night!!! & great conversations, I stayed for hours longer than I planned to. Fun!

Some very creative Durian smoothies were being created in the kitchen - I had one I loved made with Durian, E3Live chocolate bar, Ginger, Yerba Mate and Coconut water.
There was one about to be made with beets before I left - I missed that one, that would have been interesting!

And another fav thing was a square plate with chunks of E3Live chocolate cut up, blueberries, goji berries, some honey in the corners and drizzled with maple syrup. Now theres a sensual appetizer for you! very cool!!! So delicious - such a beautiful creative evening!

Today was Kaiya's birthday. I spent the day with Jim (my husband) preparing for a big family celebration. Made a few huge fruit trays and salads at his place. It was an incredible food spread.. but there was so much fresh raw foods. (I guess a bit of that was my doing! ) The one that went the fastest was a big plate with cucumbers cut in long strips, tomatoes and avocados sliced, and just some salt and pepper ground on top - so simple but really really delicious. I kept cutting up and bringing out more. It was such a clear sunny day and theres nothing quite like sitting outside with family and friends with lots of colourful fresh fruits and vegetables to make you feel great. Soul food.
It was an incredibly beautiful and abundant day!

Durian Party and Music Market

Just in from a full day at Rawlicious.. and now off to a durian party. Chillin' with my raw buds.. nice! I need some relax time - but still want to be around people - maybe something about getting off into my own space, a private trip into the multidinensional complex spiritual world, that makes me feel like being around people.. I am tired but - well, guess I'm just the type that feels best when around others. & what better way to relax than with friends and a durian! ; ) ??

So I am heading out in 10 mins! quickly... going to check out a music market also on the way at the Concord Cafe - no idea what a music market is.. will soon find out!

I am so into recapping bits and pieces of my life - just got on Twitter recently - it's kind of cool to check up on my fav raw friends and people.. interesting idea.

ok, so quick post - real life is taking precedence - yikes, times up!
Have a wonderful evening!! ~Hugs!~

the Scene

So.. whats it like working in a raw food cafe? ..in this little urban high-vibe oasis we have created for ourselves.. this little island of happiness amidst the wild jungle out there, or is the jungle in here?

Sometimes I look at scenarios happening in the kitchen and think to myself "Is this for real?" Sometimes it seems that we really have it happening - with our high vibrations and positive energies - out to save the world and spread peace and understanding to the mainstream..
But sometimes I look on from my head that is up there on the ceiling and just laugh.
Let's see.. we are sure there are some amongst us who are aliens, some of us joke about it, some are sure of it.. but there is likely one who works occasionally in our kitchen. ...& we really need to be careful just in case, right? (only 144,000 spaces on that spaceship after all) lol We laugh and dance and sing a lot and joke and hug and like to be amused.. there are conspiracy theorists amongst us, not many in our kitchen but they frequent the bar and amuse us lots.. check out David Icke online, .. we have colon hydrotherapists like most people have dentists, and drink lots of green juice which makes us all clear and tingly and of course theres keeping up that constant high that most of us go for in the raw food community with chocolate, maca, colloidal gold.. whats the new thing, oh maybe some superfire something that'll do this and that to you- and the cleaner and clearer your system is the better it works.. so bring it on..
oh, and Marias MIA, shes just back to the physical world from a week away in the spiritual world, it's crazy busy but someone just found her in the basement getting a healing - they are down there holding hands - so, important stuff behind the scenes - we take care of our own! And we have great music - I take great pride in the Ipod playlist I've created, mostly world music but with eclectic mix of everything great - old, new, offbeat - but tonight Paul has his beatnik jazz, which is working for us all just fine - except Maria, who's having a bit of a time coming back to us - thats ok, we just get her to experiment with a raw chocolate cake to get her groove back.
Oh and now we are all going to Brazil for Christmas, to a nude beach.. Raw foodists are big on going places with little clothes, skinnydipping, hot springs, one of the perks of being raw is loving your body!!
& while in Brazil we are going to go to Vale do Amanhecer, my choice (fascinating place- another post soon) - and wild so we will HAVE to go to another place to get cleared from being there.
Oh, and The Raw Spirit Fest is coming up - that's a major decision - I thought I had canceled it out - so expensive but lots of options, a house available with people I Love, salt water pool, huge, and cheap if there are lots of us.. or camping with another friend.. will see
So many adventures, how could anyone living on this planet ever get bored?
And one of the best raw things is it is always perfect all the time anyway.. so if I am not there I will just be in another perfect scenario - wow, its amazing how this keeps happening day after day - it just keeps unfolding and getting better and better.. am I high? Maybe
Is it incredibly fun and wonderful and interesting all the time behind the counter of Rawlicious? Yes, most definitely!

Cacao Goji Flax Snax

This is a delicious recipe that I have been experimenting with and enjoying lately - I'm eating it for breakfast right now as I type. It is incredibly nutritious and so easy to make. (Once you get the coconuts open ; ) Enjoy.

Cacao Goji Flax Snax

2 c Flax seeds (soak in 3 c water)
1/2 c Pumpkin seeds
1/2 c Sunflower seeds
1/2 c Goji berries
1/2 c Cacao nibs
1 c Coconut
1 c Water
1/2 c Agave
1 t Vanilla
1/2 t Cinnamon

Soak flax seeds in water. Soak seds and goji berries for a few hours to soften. Drain and rinse seeds and berries.. Open coconut, either young coconut or the hard brown coconut meat will work. I used the hard brown coconut and used about 1/2 of it. Blend this with water, agave, vanilla and cinnamon. By now the flax seeds will be a thick jelled mixture.. add the coconut mixture and all of the seeds, gojis and cacao to the flax. Mix well and spread onto teflex lined dehydrator sheets and dry at 110 degrees for 10 hours. Flip and dehydrate for several hours longer to dry completely on the other side.

Drinking

Ouch! I drank wayy too much last night. ..this is a rare thing for me but I thought I should talk about drinking and being raw - this is an interesting topic!
Many people who go raw choose to avoid drinking altogether.. and that was basically what I did for the first few years - except maybe a once a year party.. but for the past few months I have been drinking wine occasionally.. sometimes when going out for dinner, but more often lately it's been with my husband.
Not to get too into my personal life but we split up in November. The oldest - two boys live with him and our daughter goes back & forth. & On Sundays I usually go over for a family dinner.. and it often ends up with me having a glass or two of wine with Jim. Well today is our anniversary (19th) and we went out for dinner last night (he gave me an anti-versary card & present - he's quite creative! ; ) and we had a bottle of wine with dinner and then ordered a 2nd bottle - I just wasn't thinking and was drinking it like water, we were talking lots - and only realized how it affected me a bit later.
I realized today that it was like when I get a virus or something like that - now that I am raw what seems to happen is that toxins in my system seem to affect me very strongly at first but wash out of the system quite quickly.
I was in really bad shape last night - woke up in the night, head hurting, this morning I thought in the shower that I was going to be sick - but I made it into work - and got busy and soon realized that I was fine. Felt a bit tired and slightly headachy but nothing serious - I went strong all day with maybe 2 - 5 min breaks.. it went much better than I thought 1st thing this morning!!
ok, lesson learned but it was much better than it could have been.

A couple times since I have been raw I have gotten a cold but it's interesting because it affected me so differently than before I went raw.. its like you could watch the progression of the virus in your system in high speed. I would get a tingle in the throat in the morning - not even a big deal, nothing like those really hurting throats I remember and then after around noon maybe get a bit stuffed up.. by night it would be the cough for a bit and that would be it - I remember once I got it it lasted 1 day and another time it lasted for about 2 days.. it would just wash through your system quickly and lightly.
& I know lots of raw foodists who have a very pure diet and claim never to get sick - a few having lived 20 years or close to that without ever getting sick. I believe it!
As for me. I'm getting there.. and my headache is gone, but I'm getting a good night sleep tonight & am back on track taking care of myself as usual.

Cheers, To your Health!!

Osho Quotes

"Remain available to the moment. Never decide beforehand, so that you will never feel guilty, never feel any conflict within you. act becomes total. And when an act is total, it is beautiful. When an act is total, it gives you peace, silence, harmony." ~Osho

Express... manifest your hiddenmost core. Sing your song, and don't be worried what it is. Don't expect anybody to applaud it -- there is no need. Singing in itself should be the reward. So enjoy it, and others will also enjoy it. ~Osho

As you grow old everything becomes tight, hard, inflexible. That is the old age.Remember, a man can remain absolutely young to the very moment of death if he remains flexible. That will give you a depth of life, a qualitative life. ~Osho

Life is basically good, beautiful, divine, so if we are missing then something is wrong with us, not the life itself...only love knows. Logic is blind, love has eyes. Only love can see the ultimate truth that surrounds you within and without. ~Osho

living moment to moment without a past. The past makes your life convenient, comfortable, because the past is known. But life is never past, it is always present. Life is always now and here. ~Osho

Accept yourself. Respect yourself. Allow your nature to take its own course. Don't force, don't repress. Doubt - because doubt is not a sin, it is the sign of intelligence. Doubt and go on inquiring until you find. ~Osho

When sadness comes, you know it will pass, and when happiness comes you know that will pass, too. Everything passes by. The only thing that always abides is your witnessing. That witnessing brings balance. That witnessing is balance. ~Osho

One just needs a little alertness to see and find out: Life is really a great cosmic laughter. Those who become silent and happy join in the laughter. Laughter is my message. Your laughter will open a thousand and one roses within you. ~Osho

Bliss is more fundamental, more essential; we can forget all about god. Put your whole energy into being blissful and god will come seeking you, There is no need to go after him. ~Osho

The experience of bliss will give you an insight into the very phenomenon of beauty. Not only does it make you beautiful, it suddenly transforms the whole world. The whole world becomes beautiful because the world reflects you, it is a mirror. ~Osho

Stop Bill C-51

(see note also at end of post - & get the facts from the Government of Canada here.)

There is a lot of talk about Bill c-51 these days. ..& it's scary, scary stuff we are talking about here.

We are talking police state stuff, Canada changing completely - Can this be? Is this a possibility?
Our future is at stake.. right here, right now.

This is such crazy, scary stuff it's hard to believe its for real and that is is happening here in Canada!!
(I have one friend who is leaving the country if this goes through!)

If you haven't yet signed a petition, keep your eyes out for them they are everywhere.
& read more .. at the Stop C51 website & there is a great article in this month's Vitality Magazine.

There are many reasons to be educated about this - it's extremely intrusive and controlling.

Herbs and natural supplements, that we can freely buy at any health food store, are going to be regulated or should I say prescribed. And if we are under suspicion of having any unprescribed herbs or natural supplements in our homes, on our premises, then the 'authorities' have the right to remove them at our expense.. and fine us up to several millions of $'s. ..and 2 years in jail for each offense. (section 31.1)

Vitamin C only available by prescription!?! wow! Hide the Maca!!

Health Canada inspectors will have authority higher than that of the police!

This bill will also give them the right to enter our property without a warrant (section 23 (4) .. and remove anything they wish. .. and to seize out bank accounts, again without a warrant, to pay up if convicted. (section 23 (2)

This bill will categorize natural products as they do pharmaceutical products.

Theres more!

This law will allow bills to be passed behind closed doors with the assistance of foreign governments and industrial and trade organizations (section 30.7)

Raids can be enforced on natural health care providers (section 23.1)

Research can be shut down without any scientific reason or evidence of harm. (section 18.5)

The Food & Drug minister, based on his own opinions, can choose which natural products to allow and disallow on the market.

& thats not all..
This is the part that really got to me when I heard it - We will not be allowed to give advice concerning natural health care products any more.. for instance if I write the Vitamin C is good for a cold - it has to have Health Canada's approval or this will be considered a crime! ..then they can shut me down, fine me, etc etc..

Outrage at Heath Canada's Bill C-51

However, this bill will help Canada join into the really scary international Codex efforts which are working to regulate food and drugs worldwide.

Canada is still at this time a democracy and if we employ our civil powers we have the choice to stop this conforming .. Hopefully we do not just take a backseat and go with the flow as comes so easily in this beautiful albeit overly polite nation of ours!!

CODEX - Criminalizing Natural Health, Vitamins and Herbs - Part 1 (of 5)

(note: my son just read this and looked up the actual Bill found here and told me that I was wrong on a couple things. Getting Vitamin C by prescription, not having access to supplements and that the police will need a warrant to enter your house.. This post was actually written in June & got drafted, forgot to post it - The bill has been amended since then.)

from the Randomer than Random files

We are all responsible for the thoughts we think and where we focus our attention..
(& I feel happy to focus on you! : )

Comfortably Raw - check out the Inspiration page for pics of lots of inspiring Raw dishes.

"As soon as man does not take his existence for granted, but beholds it as something unfathomably mysterious, thought begins." ~ Albert Schweitzer

It's not about what you can see, it's about what you can imagine!

How can we possibly read all the books we want to read in one lifetime??!!
From my ever-growing waiting list of books to read:

David Abram's The Spell of the Sensuous - Perception and Language in a More-than-Human World
Space - Time, Physical - Spiritual, This book comes very highly recommended, & said to contain very original thoughts. & we love those!!!

"At times highly intellectual and at other times pure, spiritual and poetic, David Abram's writing weaves through your soul to bring you to a higher awareness of the land in which you live and the importance of preserving your natural heritage." from the Rebecca review- comment @ Amazon
“I choose to believe abstraction is real and reality is your own personal fantasy.” G.L. Handon

Preet from Rawlicious told me how to make a delicious Avocado Carrot Soup
: Juice some Carrots. Take 2 c of the Carrot juice, 1 Avocado, 1/2 Jalapeño (if you like it spicy), add some Basil and/or Mint leaves, and also some Ginger (optional) .. and blend.
So easy and sounds so delicious!

Another Book: Ken Wilbur - A Brief History of Everything
wow! - it starts "So we'll start with the story of the Big Bang itself, and then trace out the course of evolution from matter to life to mind. And then, with the emergence of mind, or human consciousness, we'll look at the five or six major epochs of human evolution itself. And all of this is set in the context of spirituality-of what spirituality means, of the various forms that it has historically taken, and the forms that it might take tomorrow. Sound right?" ...right.
