Immortal Jellyfish, Wildest Mexican Restaurant and the banned Peta Superbowl Ad
I just got introduced to Digg.com tonight - my pics from this evening:
'Immortal' jellyfish swarming across the world
An 'immortal' jellyfish is swarming through the world's oceans, according to scientists.
Photo: Barcroft
The Turritopsis Nutricula is able to revert back to a juvenile form once it mates after becoming sexually mature.
Marine biologists say the jellyfish numbers are rocketing because they need not die.
Dr Maria Miglietta of the Smithsonian Tropical Marine Institute said: "We are looking at a worldwide silent invasion."
The jellyfish are originally from the Caribbean but have spready all over the world.
Turritopsis Nutricula is technically known as a hydrozoan and is the only known animal that is capable of reverting completely to its younger self.
It does this through the cell development process of transdifferentiation.
Scientists believe the cycle can repeat indefinitely, rendering it potentially immortal.
While most members of the jellyfish family usually die after propagating, the Turritopsis nutricula has developed the unique ability to return to a polyp state.
Having stumbled upon the font of eternal youth, this tiny creature which is just 5mm long is the focus of many intricate studies by marine biologists and geneticists to see exactly how it manages to literally reverse its aging process. !!!

How to survive Casa Bonita, the world's weirdest Mexican restaurant
By Joel Warner in Cafe Society

I recently visited Casa Bonita for the first time, and I'm still trying to recover. No, that's not an indigestion joke about the food, sub-par as it may be. Actually, my mind was blown in a good way. As I'd been told, there's no easy way to describe the Lakewood institution, which bills itself as "The World's Most Exciting Restaurant" - a pronouncement that very well might be true. The multi-story, Mexican-themed behemoth includes a 30-foot-tall waterfall, cliff divers, fire jugglers, strolling mariachi bands, a pirate cave, magicians, puppet shows, skee-ball machines... you get the idea. As one of my colleagues put it, it's like Disney had sex with Tijuana and left the goofy-looking bastard to fend for itself in a random strip mall on Colfax.

Friends, Service and Lovebugs : )
Hello!!
I have just spent 10 hours filming at Rawlicious .. preparing and showing how to make lots of great breakfast and dessert recipes. ..& today is the day I really should have had a camera with me, cause they looked great & it would have been nice to show pictures here of them.. instead you get cute picures of red bugs and flowers, cause its the 1st thing that popped into my mind when I opened up my computer.. and I am kind of tired and frankly kind of surprised at myself to be here posting so diligently & lovingly anyway.. when I should be resting to get lots of energy to go back & make more wonderful food at work tomorrow!! But I will have lots of energy, cause I am RAW!!! : ) ..and just a quick post.
OK, so my subject today (besides the flowers & bugs and insect) is from a little piece of paper that I found on a shelf at Rawlicious while we were filming. It is wonderful to work in a place where magical pieces of paper like this just appear in your hand, interesting notes placed here & there.. What an awesome place! ok, here is what the note said:

Our Magical Creative World
~ * "I had to tell my ordinary self we're growing apart ...I'm falling in love with Magic" * ~
Thoughts from Ike - track #8 of the 9 Breaths of Amazing Grace:
We create our reality from our thoughts words and actions.
We create our reality from our feeling states.
We sculpt creation.
Energy flows through the mold that we create & through which we create our 3D world.
Our feeling states are magnetic.
They attract states ike themselves; they attract energy.
We vibrate all the time and the vibrations are creating the physical world including our physical bodies.
If we are creating wars, it is because it is inside of us.
What is your feeling state?
What are you attracting to you?
What are you creating?
How is your experience?

Random Food Pics
Just looking on the card in my camera & there are lots of random food pics that I thought I would post. Sometimes my pics upload onto this blog sideways.. and then if I open the picture flip it to the right (or left) and then back and upload it again it will then upload correctly.. it makes no sense and its such a random thing why and to which pics this happens to.. and as this is a random post I am leaving them this time.. although by the time I explain this I could have flipped them. lol
I am, as usual, rushing to get the many things done today that I feel I need to do, foremost on the list is spending most of the day at my home away from home Rawlicious!! : )

Poem from the Inauguration - Praise Song for the Day
from Barack Obama's Inaugural Address
Praise Song for the Day by Elizabeth Alexander
Each day we go about our business,
walking past each other,
catching each others' eyes or not,
about to speak or speaking.
All about us is noise.
All about us is noise and bramble,
thorn and din,
each one of our ancestors on our tongues.
Someone is stitching up a hem,
darning a hole in a uniform,
patching a tire,
repairing the things in need of repair.
Someone is trying to make music somewhere
with a pair of wooden spoons
on an oil drum with cello,
boom box, harmonica, voice.
A woman and her son wait for the bus.
A farmer considers the changing sky.
A teacher says, "Take out your pencils. Begin."
We encounter each other in words,
words spiny or smooth,
whispered or declaimed;
words to consider, reconsider.
We cross dirt roads and highways
that mark the will of someone
and then others who said,
"I need to see
what's on the other side;
I know there's something better
down the road.
We need to find a place
where we are safe.
We walk into that
which we cannot yet see.
Say it plain,
that many
have died for this day.
Sing the names of the dead
who brought us here,
who laid the train tracks,
raised the bridges,
picked the cotton and the lettuce,
built brick by brick
the glittering edifices
they would then keep clean
and work inside of.
Praise song for struggle.
Praise song for the day.
Praise song for every hand-lettered sign,
the figuring it out at kitchen tables.
Some live by
"Love thy neighbor as thy self.
"Others by "first do no harm",
or "take no more than you need".
What if the mightiest word is love,
love beyond marital, filial, national.
Love that casts a widening pool of light.
Love with no need to preempt grievance.
In today's sharp sparkle,
this winter air,
anything can be made,
any sentence begun.
On the brink,
on the brim,
on the cusp –
praise song
for walking forward in that light.

Filming at Rawlicious - Day 2
What a day! We were scheduled to film at Rawlicious again today and got a call that the power was out. So much happened today and so many changed plans, it is mercury retrograde right now! ..but we just flowed through it. At one point we were ready to just give in to it, take off, go watch a matinee and hang out downtown ..but power got restored and we packed up and off we went to film once again.
Although the afternoon off sounded great, I was glad we ended up going in, and especially that there was power and Angus and Tracy and the kids weren't cold or without power.. but also, I had spent yesterday prepping, making pizza crust ahead of time, getting the fermented almond cheeze started, and we had bought so much food!
So, I will take a raincheck, or in our case a snowcheck on the movie and outing.. although for my next few days off (or month of days off) I am scheduled to do more filming, it looks like we are working on a series.. all the really good, basic, and easy recipes that are great to know if you want to go raw. I feel this is a really important project which will be very helpful to so many people.
My director, James, took some pictures ; ) which I am posting here.
Today we covered recipes for lots of sauces: Tomato Marinara, Basil Pesto and Alfredo Sauce and a couple nut cheezes, a fermented Almond Cheese made with miso, garlic, ginger and spices and a Cashew Cheese. We made Zucchetti, Lasagna and Pizza. Oh & we made pizza crusts with almonds, seeds, carrots and zucchinis which is really wonderful!
..Then even though I was tempted to cut it short because of our late start, we continued to prepare and show how to make Kale Chips, and a couple different recipes for dehydrated nuts and seeds: Crisy Living Seeds and Crispy Living Nuts.. I made the nuts with Indian spices: Curry, Cumin, Garam Masala, Coriander - these are all great, excellent things to have made up ahead of time for when you get hungry and need a quick snack.
